Hiking and Trekking

Cloud forest, tea trails and a pilgrimage peak climbed by torchlight to reach the summit at dawn.

What to expect

  • Guided day hikes with permits and park fees arranged
  • Adam's Peak by night, 5,500 steps to a sunrise shadow
  • Horton Plains and World's End before the cloud arrives
  • Multi-day treks in the Knuckles range with village homestays

Where to do it

  • Adam's Peak or Sri Pada, December to May pilgrimage season
  • Horton Plains, a 9km loop at 2,100 metres
  • Knuckles Conservation Forest, one to four days
  • Ella Rock and Little Adam's Peak, half day

Best season

Adam's Peak December to May. Horton Plains January to March. Knuckles is drier February to April and July to September.

Good to know

Leeches are common in the Knuckles after rain, so bring socks and salt. Adam's Peak steps are steep and get crowded on poya days. Weather at 2,000 metres changes fast; carry a shell.
